Ji Chang Wook is officially joining the cast of Netflix’s upcoming political thriller The Generals (working title), directed by acclaimed filmmaker Yoon Jong-bin (Narco-Saints, The Spy Gone North).
Set during the turbulent political era surrounding the rise of Chun Doo-hwan and Roh Tae-woo, the film explores ambition, survival, and the dangerous pursuit of power behind the scenes of South Korea’s military regime.
According to newly released production details, Ji Chang Wook will play Heo Hak-seong, a junior military officer who becomes “a thorn in Roh’s side,” hinting at tension and conflict within the story’s shifting power structure.
The film stars Son Suk-ku as Roh Tae-woo and Ha Jung-woo as Chun Doo-hwan, bringing together some of Korea’s most respected actors in what is already shaping up to be one of Netflix’s most anticipated Korean political thrillers.
Political thrillers exploring South Korea’s authoritarian past have become increasingly successful in recent years, with films like 12.12: The Day and Harbin drawing both critical acclaim and strong commercial success.
For longtime fans, this project could become another standout performance showcasing the intensity and emotional depth Ji Chang Wook brings to complex characters.
